This page contains some possible areas of medical research, or just random crazy ideas.
Placebo Effect
There are many cases where patients were seemingly able to heal themselves of illness in placebo effect experiments. Even mock surgeries have been able to cure.
Could the mind be used in healing? Do diseases/injuries heal differently in someone that is braindead or comatose? This could be tested on animals.
Could psychotropic drugs be used on patients to give them a better outlook on their healing in order to express brain functions that actually help the healing process?
Induced Depression
One thing I've noticed is after coming out of a state of depression you feel better than you did before going into it. It is cathartic and you learn to cope with it better next time.
We have vaccines for certain viruses and diseases, the goal ultimately to make the body immune to the disease. Could something like this be done with psychological diseases like depression? Something like a low 'dosage' induced depression, which causes the mind to better cope with real depression later. The goal would be to become 'immune' to depression.
Seizures
One person described seizures to me as being cathartic, as if it were a release that is actually desired at times. ECT has been used to induce seizures and cure depression in patients.
Cytology
Lysosomes
Lysosomes eat defective cell material. Could they be used to kill cancer cells from the inside out?
Apoptosis is programmed cell death.
Mitochondria
Mitochondrial defects in cancer
Smooth ER
Too much smooth endoplasmic reticulum creates tolerance to drugs like alcohol and barbiturates. Some way to reduce smooth ER in cancer cells only?
